Of all the various skills available to you in Skyrim, the magical schools are easily some of the most varied and unique, relying not only on your skills but on the power of the spell itself. And while this can be reasonably complex, it can also be gratifying.Â
Â
This is most apparently seen in the Conjuration School, offering unique magical power and ability uses. There are few skills as varied as the Conjuration skill, from raising the dead and summoning animals to materialize weapons and trapping souls.Â
Â
Here in this overview, we will be going over how you can get the most potent Master-level spells in the Conjuration School and their overall power and value to you as a player.Â
Â
So, without further ado, let’s begin!Â
Enter The College
Â
To begin the process, you’ll want to head to the College of Winterhold, where you will ultimately start the side-quest to get the spell. To start it, you’ll first need to have a Conjuration Skill of at least level 90 beforehand. You can do this in several different ways throughout your playthrough of the game, but one of the fastest is to learn the Soul Trap spell. There, you can cast a spell on an individual indefinitely without it being recognized as an aggressive attack.Â
Â
Either way, once you reach level 90, speak with Phinis Gestor, asking to learn more about Conjuration. He will tell you that he first requires a sigil stone to teach you, teaching you the spell, Summon Unbound Dremora. This will officially start the quest, Conjuration Ritual Spell.Â
Â
Get the Sigil Stone
Â
After learning the Summon Unbound Dremora spell, you will then go to the college’s upper level to the summoning circle outside. There will be a quest marker, so it shouldn’t be difficult for you to find it.Â
Â
Once you are there, you will cast the spell to summon the unbound creature. After briefly talking with him, he will attack you. Defeat him and repeat the summoning process. He will then attack you again. After defeating him a second time, you will summon him for a third time, once again fighting and beating him. On the fourth and final summoning, he will submit to you, giving you the Sigil Stone.Â
Â
Return to Phinis
Â
Upon receiving the Sigil Stone, you will then simply return to Phinis and have him look at it. He will not keep the stone and instead say that he merely needed to look at it. From there, he will then teach you the Master-level Conjuration spell, Flame Thrall. Talk to him again, and you will be able to buy the other Master-level Conjuration spells, Frost Thrall, Storm Thrall, and Dead Thrall.Â
Â
And with that, you’ve done it! Though indeed not the most challenging ritual in the game, the process can be somewhat costly financially as the spells are not cheap.Â
Â
Spell Overview
Â
With an exception to the Dead Thrall spell, Fire, Frost, and Storm Thralls will summon a more powerful variant of each respective Atronach with twice as much health. The thrall summons will permanently follow you, only leaving your side if killed.Â
Â
The Dead Thrall is slightly different, though mostly similar. Rather than summon an elemental atronach to your side, it instead permanently reanimates almost any humanoid corpse that you come across. This creature will use whatever weapons they have on them and, upon death, will not revert to ash. This is particularly useful when a follower has died as you can use them to carry your items as makeshift storage, killing and reanimating them whenever you need them.Â
Â
Conclusion
Â
And with that, you have now received all the Master-level Conjuration spells as well as a full understanding of their widespread use and ability. Each of these spells is incredibly useful, with Dead Thrall being particularly good with the most versatility.Â
