Ixion is one of the two (2) superb FATEs in the second expansion pack of Final Fantasy XIV, Stormblood. It is called “A Horse Outside” and is a level 70 Boss that spawns in The Lochs. The spawn time of this Boss is quite long which is around 36 – 72 hours. If you’re among the many players who want to battle Ixion, then wait for the weather to turn dark and gloomy. That is your cue that Ixion has spawned. Killing Ixion is not as simple compared to the other FATEs Bosses. In this guide below, you will learn how to effectively fight this superb Boss as well as the amazing loot that you can acquire from defeating it.

How to Defeat Ixion?

Ixion is covered with a shield that makes it completely impossible to harm or damage. Attacking this Boss for hours will be useless since the Boss is covered with this invulnerability shield. To damage Ixion, you will need to acquire an item called Stygian Ash which you can get from Timeworn Gazelleskin Map or Timeworn Gaganaskin Map in Treasure Hunt. The drop rate of Stygian Ash is incredibly low. If you want to acquire one the easiest way, you can consider purchasing it from the Market Board.

Using the Stygian Ash to Ixion will remove its shield but keep in mind that this Boss does possess a few harmful abilities. For one, it can spawn clones from time to time and these clones are unattackable. The best thing to do is to move out of the way as they charge forward. Another thing to avoid is lightning bolts since they can deal a lot of damage. As the fight progresses, the Boss will start spawning lightning elementals that you will need to kill right away. Failure to kill these lightning elementals will allow Ixion to regenerate the shield which can make it even harder to defeat.

Rewards

Once the Boss is defeated, you will get two (2) Ixion Horns as a reward for Gold completion and one (1) Ixion Horn for Silver completion. By collecting ample amounts of these Ixion Horns, you can have it traded for a Wind-up Ixion or an Ixion Mount.

Wind-up Ixion

The Wind-up Ixion is a minion or pet that you can acquire by trading five (5) Ixion Horns. If you’re looking for a pet that will follow you around, then the Wind-up Ixion would be the best one that you can have. It is a majestic horse that will definitely add more fun to your gameplay. To trade the Ixion Horns for a Wind-up Ixion, simply proceed to Eschina in Rhalgr’s Reach.

Ixion Mount

The ultimate reward that you can acquire from continuously defeating Ixion is the Ixion Mount. To get the Ixion Mount, you will need a total of 12 Ixion Horns which means that you have to fight Ixion 6 to 12 times to acquire the mount.

Aside from its magnificent look, the mount also has the ability to fly which adds impact to its appearance. Considering how cool it looks, fighting this powerful Boss to farm for Ixion Horns would be definitely worth your while. To trade Ixion Horns for an Ixion Mount, you will need to talk to the same NPC which is Eschina in Rhalgr’s Reach.
