Dyones Diary – Eden 1 (Savage)
Hi everyone, here are some notes i took while raiding, and coming soon are the strategies we used in party finder for how to play the mechanics. (Illustrations for the explanations will follow s00n).
Abstract:
This fight can roughly be split in three phases. The first phase, where you get introduced to the core mechanics of the fight, the second phase, which is an add phase and a dps check, and the third phase, which switches up the mechanics a little bit. The overall required dps is approximately 52.5k, and the fight’s enrage hits at approximately 10 minutes, depending on how fast you deal with the adds.
Note: The wall is death.
Walkthrough:
————————————————————————————
First Phase:
The fight starts with Edens Gravity, a raid wide spell that deals percent damage based on maximum HP. Watch out that the tank does not get hit too hard by auto attacks, else he’ll drop fairly low.
Next up is Vice and Virtue. This happens a couple of times throughout the fight with different mechanics happening as the cast finishes. A number of players gets targeted with markers, indicating that they’ll be the target of said mechanic. It will either be all four DPS, both tanks or both healers.
This one, let’s call it Vice and Virtue 1a, targets the 4 dps. At the end of the cast, aoe puddles will be dropped on the targeted players that stay for about 20s(?). The players need to exit the puddles as soon as they land. If anyone steps into them they’ll get a Heavy debuff and receive massive damage, one-shotting everything that is not a tank.
Following that is Edens Flare, a donut aoe around the boss. The safe zone extends a little further than his hitbox, but it’s generally safest to stay inside the bosses hitbox.
Next up, Vice and Virtue 2a. This one targets both tanks, and will hit them with a line aoe tank buster that needs to be mitigated and applies magic vulnerability. point these two away from the party, and use cooldowns as necessary. This is immediately followed by Spear of Paradise, a twofold tank buster. The first hit applies Physical Vulnerability Up. You can either invuln both hits, or tank swap during the cast of the Spear of Paradise. If you decide to use invulnerability for both, make sure that the main tank stays in tank stance until he shirks, the offtank provokes during the cast and stays out of tank stance until the shirk lands. Otherwise the offtank might grab enmity too soon and the offtank gets hit with the 2nd hit regardless, making you waste your invulnerability.
After that we have Vice and Virtue 3a. This one will mark both healerse with Prey, meaning they can pass on the target. Once passed on, get a debuff Slippery Prey, meaning they cannot be marked with either of the Prey anymore. These markers need to be passed to the tanks, as the marked players will be hit with heavy damage and a Bleeding debuff, dealing around 25k damaber per tick. It’s easiest to have the healers stack on top of the tanks, that way no dps can accidentally get the Prey.
The boss will jump to a corner of the room and start casting Pure Light.
“The boss jumps in the opposite direction from where he is being tanked every time. So if you tank the boss slightly North and East he will always jump SW. If the boss is tanked slightly North and West he will always jump SE.” (Noctis Targaris, Leviathan)
This will hit all of the arena, except for the space behind him, with massive damage. The cast time is long, so you have a lot of time to make your way behind him. After the cast, Eden Prime jumps back into the center and starts casting Delta Attack. There’s a second version of this mechanic later on, so let’s call this one Delta Attack a.
Eden Prime will cast a sizable ice-aoe around himself. At the same time, line-aoes will go through the center of the arena from both North to South as well as East to West (these are about 4 of the ground tiles wide. In addition, every player will get hit with a circle aoe around them.
We used a macro (below) to assign positions for all players where to spread around the arena in the safe quadrants.
Next up, the boss will cast Dimensional Shift. This is raid wide damage and also changes the appearance of the arena. Eight orbs of light will spawn around the boss, and he will start casting Paradise Lost. This will target the four players which are the furthest away from the boss with five consecutive circle aoes on the ground, each 3s apart from the next. We sent the ranged dps and healers outside to bait these near their position for Delta Attack a to allow the melees to continue attacking safely.
While that is happening, the boss will use Pure Beam. Upon finishing the cast, each of the eight orbs will shoot a laser (line aoe)at the player closest to it, dealing about 60k damage and applying Magic Vulnerability Up, meaning each player can only get hit by exactly one laser. Healers will need to heal up the party after the Dimensional Shift as well.
For assigning each player an orb, we rotated slightly clockwise from our position for Delta Attack a. Ranged and Healers will need to pay attention to place their circle aoes in a way that they end up near their orb. The window for this isnt too tight, since you’ll have about 5 seconds left to run to your position after the last circle aoe indicator appears (and 2s after it explodes).
For an uptime version on how to handle this mechanic, check out this thread:
The boss will jump again into a corner and cast Pure Light, jump back, cast Edens Gravity and follow that up by Fragor Maximus. The last one is another raid wide spell dealing a lot of damage and indicating the end of the first phase.
Add Phase:
Two proximity markers will appear a little bit east and west of the center. We had the group run to the south edge of the platform, be careful not to walk off tho.
After a while, two adds will land and the party gets hit by the proximity damage. Each tank should pick up one of the adds, pull them to the middle and face NE and NW respectively. This is to ensure aoe spells can hit both of the adds at the same time and ease the DPS check. These adds do cleave, so make sure to turn them NE and NW respectively.
First the adds will cast Mana Boost. This spell can be interrupted, but if you fail to do so they get a MASSIVE damage up buff, which will almost certainly cause a wipe.
After a couple of auto attacks they will cast Mana Burst, dealing raid wide damage. Mitigate the party through these as you see necessary. After that, both tanks will get hit with a cleave. Those alone dont deal too much damage, just make sure not to take both cleaves as a tank.
This will happen again after a couple of auto attacks.
Shortly after the second Mana Burst, the adds will start to cast Onto Dust. This is their enrage spell. Both adds need to be killed before they can finish this cast.
If you manage to do so, there will be an (annoyingly) long cutscene, and players will receive a lot of damage. Healers should make sure to top of the party before this happens.#
Queue “Shooting Star” by Bag Raiders for maximum effect.
Third Phase:
First and foremost, welcome to twice twice ville. A lot of mechanics will change in this phase.
After reappearing, Eden Prime will cast Paradise Regained. This will give him a buff called Paradise Regained, giving him more magic damage and changing up some mechanics.
Following this, he will start to cast what we will call Vice and Virtue 2b, targeting both tanks. Instead of hitting them with laser tank busters however, this one will hit them with stack markers. We let the boss look north until he starts casting, and then have the party split into two stacks of 4 people at his SE and SW side to allow melee dps to hit their positionals while stacking.
Following this is Vice and Virtue 1b, marking all four DPS. These are now also stacks that do not leave a puddle behind anymore. They do however apply Magic Vulnerability Up, meaning people will have to pair up and spread a little. Assign these two group mechanics beforehand.
For the 4:4 stack we had the MT, H1, R1 and M1 stack in the SE and the rest in SW. For the pair stacks we had following pairs: (MT, M1), (OT, M2), (R1, H1), (R2, H2).
MT and OT stack stayed in the SE/SW of the boss ( make sure he look north when starting to cast as to not confuse anyone), and the H1/H2 stacks were positioned a bit south of that.
Next up, Delta Attack b. This one combines 3 mechanics again, but switches them around.
Instead of an ice circle around him, Eden Prime will cast an ice donut aoe, meaning the safe zone will be close to him. Instead of lightning line aoes through the center, both tanks will be hit with an aoe tank buster that applies Lightning Resistance Down on everyone hit. And instead of fire on everyone, we have a fire on one heal/dps that needs to be stacked.
Have both tanks go in melee range outside the bosses hitbox to the NE and NW side, and the party stack on his south side for the fire.
After that, he will cast Vice and Virtue 3b, marking both healers with Prey. Instead of the marked players getting hit by a tank buster, they will get hit with a little bit of damage instead, but they’ll also receive a Physical Vulnerability Down and Healing Potency Down debuff. Also the usual Bleeding debuff. You don’t want this to be on the tanks or healers. Pass it to two dps, and make sure they do not die to the bleeding. This is followed by a Spear of Paradise, which remains unchanged.
Dimensional Shift will hit the raid for damage and indicate another phase change. This time however, instead of 8 orbs, only 4 will spawn. two will be close in the N/S of the boss, and two far away in the E/W. Additionally, 4 meteor marks will spawn close to the boss (in bane range 😉 ). These will need to be dps’ed down before they finish their cast.
All of the orbs have a spinning direction indicator attacked. The boss will start casting Pure Beam again, making the orbs target the closest player to them. This time it is not a single beam that fires instantly, but rather three beams that are spread apart (central one aiming at the targeted player). Those beams get indicated and start firing after a short while, then they will continue to rapidly fire, each iterations slightly rotated in the direction of the indicator of the orb.
We had the healers and ranged dps take care of the orbs. Aim them in a way that the first aoe is pointing away from the middle and that the rotated ones wont hit the middle either. In total the lasers will rotate 90° before the orbs stop firing. The baiting players can move into the the middle as soon as the indicators appear, no further baiting is required.
From here on out it’s only repeat mechanics. The boss jumps into a corner for another Pure Light, then back to the middle for Dimensional Shift, followed by Edens Gravity and Edens Flare.
The boss lost his Paradise Regained buff, so all the mechanics will be the same as in phase 1. First a Vice and Virtue 2a and a Spear of Paradise. That is followed by Vice and Virtue 1a. Make sure to place the puddles on the cardinal directions, because after this there will be another Delta Attack a, followed by Vice and Virtue 3a. Healing this with the upcoming raid wide damage in mind can be a hassle, so if you have no use for your invulnerabilities before this, now is as good as any time to use them.
Eden Prime will use Dimensional Shift again, spawning 4 orbs and 4 meteors. Handle these the same way as before. After the Pure Light, there’s another Pure Beam and Dimensional Shift.
After this it’s only Edens Gravity > Edens Flare > Paradise Regained > Vice and Virtue 2b > Vice and Virtue 1b > Delta Attack b and then a hard casted Fragor Maximus, which is his enrage.
