Hello! Welcome to Eureka, Albeon here, your resident sharlayan scholar for all things Isle of Val!
This document is designed to help people new and overwhelmed with the new mode of game play in Final Fantasy XIV called, The Forbidden Land: Eureka Anemos!
Eureka is content accessible by any level 70 character that has completed the quest:
And We Shall Call It Eureka
Disciple of War or Magic level 70
Rhalgr’s Reach (X:9.8 Y:12.5)
Galiena
Players must first complete the main scenario quest “Stormblood.”
This guide’s goal is to help you grasp the basics and understand how to survive and possibly enjoy eureka as content. Please follow the outline along the side of this page to navigate to information that you need.
New Players should read from the beginning.
Section 1: An Introduction to Eureka
Elemental Levels
Eureka introduces an alternative leveling system called an Elemental Level. The max elemental level currently achievable by players is level 20.
Experience works differently in Eureka as well:
- From level 1 – 5 there is no experience penalty for dying in Eureka.
- From level 6 and onward, if you die and are not resurrected by a player then you will lose 25% of the exp of your current level, but not level down.
- From level 11 if you die, you will level down if you are not resurrected if the exp loss goes below the amount you have for your level.
- Elemental Level is tied to the player, not the job. You can change jobs at any point and keep your elemental level. (though only in town)
- So in Conclusion: At level 6 and higher if you respawn instead of get a player resurrection you will lose exp! This includes level 20.
Experience Chains!
- Every kill of a monster increases your chain.
- Every increase chain is +3% extra over the last one.
- Kills on 10/20/30 are double exp!
- The higher your chain the more exp and chance as crystal drops.
- The Chain resets on 30.
- The Chain falls off if you take to long between kills.
- You can only chain on monsters your level or higher.
Anemos Elementals (Exp Buff)
This wonderful little creature can be found all over the map, eagerly waiting to help out players with a very powerful buff!
Anemos Elementals will cast an AOE when you get near them that gives everyone within the AOE two(2) one(1) hour buffs. Be careful dragging mobs on top these fae, monsters can kill them!
Thess buffs increases EXP gain, Damage done, and gives a pretty powerful regen.
The Anemos Elemental will despawn after it has cast it’s AOE four(4) times.
Note!: The exp buff does NOT apply to the bonus exp gained from completing notorious monster FATES and you can NOT click it off and have it renewed it must EXPIRE.
Elemental EXP Up | Exp Increase
Elemental Blessing | Damage Up, Powerful Regen |
Elemental Wheel
In addition to your Elemental Level you will also have a new mechanic called the Elemental Wheel.
Upon completing the entry quest with Krile, you will be rewarded one (1) magicite that can be slotted into your Magia Board.
You’re magia board will help you kill monsters and survive monster attacks. It is a new interactable UI element that looks as such:
Note: Upon starting you will have no magia slotted and all circles will be zero (0).
Every monster in Eureka has an elemental affinity that is marked by their name. This gives them a weakness and a resistance.
By spinning your magia board you can change your element to their weakness or change your element to their element for a defense boost.
You can spin your board by physically clicking on it! So long as you click quickly you can rotate it several slots before expending an MA point.
Changing your element costs one MA point from the middle of your board, you can change your element a total of five (5) times before your MA points are depleted, but MA points are regenerated upon killing monsters and so long as you do that, you will never run out. They also regenerate passively at about 1 per 5 minutes.
You will gain one magicite at levels one(1), three(3), five(5), thirteen(13), and seventeen(17).
They are obtained from quests offered by Krile, the locations of each can be found below in useful links, on the eureka map.
It is advised that you place all of them in one row rather than splitting or spreading them.
Slotting magicite can be done only in town and is not permanent, you can return to town and change how you magicite is slotted at any time.
To slot your magicite you need to walk up to the magia melder and activate it. Doing so will open the magia melder menu.
As stated, by spinning your board you rotate your magicites (not the elements) to be slotted into different elements.
The elemental toughness and weaknesses are as follows:
Section 2: Notorious Monsters
Disclaimer: Some of the following is theorycrafting and Player Speculation.
While exploring Eureka you will encounter FATES that appear on the map. These are called Notorious Monsters and they are a source of excellent Experience and the main way of obtaining upgrade materials for Relics as well as the only way to obtain coffers.
There are twenty notorious monsters. One for each elemental level. They reward experience, crystals, and coffers based upon their level.
Actively occurring Notorious Monsters can be found on the map by this Symbol:
Things to know about NMs
- Once killed their respawn window is about 90~120 minutes.
- Killing specific monsters contributes to their chance to spawn.
- Weather affects their chance to spawn but does not gate it. (Pazuzu is an exception)
- “Nocturnal” fates can still spawn during the day, but their spawner mobs only spawn at night!
- We have confirmed spawns of basically every nm in a ton of weathers.
Computer Scientist Albeon’s Theory on how Notorious monsters are spawned:
This is incredibly basic, I do not claim to know exactly what is going on under the hood, but the data the Eurekan Explorers have collected seems to continue to confirm that spawning might function somewhat like this.
Protip: this is the concept stripped to it’s basic execution, SE likely has baked in a lot of other hooks to make it even more opaque/RNG.
How an nm’s chance to spawn is calculated:
SpawnChance = BaseSpawnChance + # ofMonstersKilled WeatherModifier
The code logic used to spawn it:
This logic is run every X minutes, if it succeeds the monster is spawn, if not it will check again in a few minutes.
Notorious Monster spawns are not checked every time you kill a monster!
What does this formula and algorithm mean in layman’s terms? This right here:
Notorious Monster Truths
- Notorious Monsters can spawn even if you aren’t killing their pop monsters.
- Notorious Monsters can spawn in weather they don’t like.
- Nocturnal can spawn during the day.
- Notorious Monsters can take longer than their spawn window to respawn.
Notorious Monster EXP
Any FATE 2+ levels higher than your current elemental level will reward you with no coffers or crystals and penalized experience. Each subsequent level that is higher than you will continue to penalize the exp. Fighting NMs considerably higher than you is not efficient time wise!
Likewise FATES do not scale, you level sync down to them, but their rewards do not increase, as such, fighting a lvl 1 fate as a lvl 15+ player is not going to give you very good rewards exp wise.

Section 3: Leveling Techniques
Leveling in Eureka can seem very daunting, but in truth it is very easy! With a little patience, anybody can reach level 20, in any amount of playing time that is comfortable for them.
If you HATE the FATE Train, DON’T do IT! There are other ways to level that are efficient! (some even MORE efficient!)
Before we talk about anything though, buy Eurekan Potions.
Eurekan Potions
Eurekan Potions are a 40 second regen with a 45 second cooldown (that starts when you drink it) that offer you 2500 hp per tick! These potions are life savers! They will save you while you run from mobs, they will save you while soloing, they will save you if you pull hate in Fates! (Given you aren’t one-shot)
They are sold in Port Surgate at X: 19 Y: 32 by this fellow:
For this guide I will be splitting Leveling up into 5 sections.
Solo | Light Party | Full Party | Minimum Effort | Power Leveling
Solo Leveling
It is completely viable to level solo in Eureka but you will need to accept some truths:
- It can be dangerous, as you have no guaranteed resurrection if you die.
- It is not extremely fast, but it is not slow either. It is Steady.
- You absolutely will still need to do Fates.
To solo level you will need to do the following:
- Buy Eurekan Potions use them every pull, monsters at level will hit you fairly hard. If you are a class that can heal it is still recommended that you buy and use Eurekan Potions, as time spent casting heals is time lost DPSing, which can cause a loss of chain.
- Pick a pack of mobs at your level and kill them one by one, working up your chain. Be careful, some monsters have very nasty un-telegraphed attacks. An example is Anemos Flans have a unannounced tankbuster. (The Community is working on compiling a list of attacks.)
- Ideally work on monsters that can spawn fates, if that isn’t viable (perhaps the train is at that fate area) then pick mobs near said fate. Look at the map, choose monsters in areas that give you access to many fates.
- If a fate spawns go to it! Shout for a group if you are a dps to help you get gold. You can drop the group afterwards and return to soloing. Fate exp is important! There is no real way to avoid that.
- Optional: Avoid fates considerably higher than you. If a fate is too high, you will receive no coffers or crystals and penalized experience, it can be a waste of time especially if windows are open for lower level fates. It’s highly likely you would make the exact same amount of exp just staying where you are, because of the penalties + time + travel time. (unlocking teleports negates this a bit)
Light Party
Like soloing, Light Parties are also completely viable for leveling. It is not as dangerous as solo leveling so long as one of you can resurrect. Light parties work best with a tank, but a tank isn’t required.
To do light party leveling you will need to do the following:
- Buy Eurekan Potions use them every pull, monsters at level will hit you fairly hard. If your group has a healer, this becomes much less of a priority, but using them here and there can let the healer dps more, making chains easier.
- Pick monsters 1~4 levels higher than your group depending on how well you work together, how many you have, and if you have a tank and healer. The Tank should have his magia board match the monster’s element, for defense! Work on your chain!
- Ideally work on monsters that can spawn fates, if that isn’t viable (perhaps the train is at that fate area) then pick mobs near said fate. Look at the map, choose monsters in areas that give you access to many fates.
- If a fate spawns go to it!
Full Party(Optional 2 Tank)
Extremely viable (40-50k exp per hour without fates), composition should have two(2) healers, five(5) dps, and one(1) tank. Full parties can very quickly out EXP fates that are not within their level range if done properly. A tank and at least one healer is required for this. If the tank uses Eureka potions, the second healer can be replaced with a dps.
To do full party leveling you will need to do the following:
- Your tank must have their magia board set to the defensive element. That means their board must be the same element as the enemy you are fighting. If this is not done, the monsters you will be fighting will destroy your tank.
- Find a camp and pull monsters that are 5~6+ levels higher than your lowest level member. If you are comfortably killing +6, focus on that. (+6 will likely require two healers)
- Ideally work on monsters that can spawn fates, if that isn’t viable (perhaps the train is at that fate area) then pick mobs near said fate. Look at the map, choose monsters in areas that give you access to many fates.
- If a fate that spawns is in your level range, go to it. If it is much lower, or much higher than you, 5+ lvl monster chains will easily out EXP the travel time + kill time + travel time back.
- Optional: Two Tank strategy– you can have the offtank pull and maintank a new mob just before the current one dies so everyone is constantly killing things, especially if +5 or +6. This also means double the cooldowns are available and even while defensively aspected, tanks can still do some respectable damage. (credit: Best Kitten#6479)
Minimum Effort (Solo or Group)
Effective, good for socializing or multitasking, best exp for the least amount of effort. Two methods, welcome to the grindmind.
To do minimum effort(solo) leveling you will need to do the following:
- You really need to be a tank for this to work. Paladin is best, but anything enmity generating class works well. Healers have potential, but have trouble getting gold on fates.
- Chill and chat with friends and do things that are not Eureka.
- Go to every fate that spawns, if you are at tank, use your enmity generating combos. You are realistically not in danger of pulling threat if you are careful. Swap to dps if you do get close.
- Get Gold, rinse, repeat.
- Optional: if you are not a tank, shout for group at each fate and leave after each fate so you don’t have to ride the train.
To do minimum effort(group) leveling you will need to do the following:
- Follow the FATE train, kill mobs to help spawn fates.
- Work at a group to get enough contribution on Fates that spawn to get gold.
- Get Gold, rinse, repeat.
- Follow FATE train to the next monster that needs to be killed to spawn a FATE.
- Go insane because this is beyond mind numbing. Please remember you can skip a fate or two or take breaks. This is the highest burnout method.
Power Leveling
Are your friends under leveled? Did they start late and you’re way too high level for them? Can’t group together without exp penalty? Here’s the current technique for power leveling that guy in your FC who works all day like the adult he is.
To do power leveling you will need to do the following:
- Be paladin and have flash on your bar.
- Make sure all your little lowbies are in a group together and ready to kill!! Make sure you are not in their group.
- Pick a mob that is +1~5 levels over your lowbie’s level and let them pull or tag it with a damaging ability.
- Quickly pick up aggro with flash only. (Before the lowbie gets attacked and killed!!) Any auto attacks/damaging abilities will immediately destroy your lowbie’s exp. Pick mobs in scale to how many people you are helping. It will take forever for 1 lowbie to kill a much higher mob.
- Let the lowbie kill the monster.
- Rinse and repeat and maybe try for chains.
- If a fate spawns, group up with your lowbies, take them to it and get them gold, then go back to out of group flash-technique.
Section 4: Relic Armor and Weapons
Getting Started
The main reward and goal for tackling Eureka are class specific artifact armor(AF) and relic weapons(Relic). This gear is ten(10) iLevels lower than the current raid gear, but offers five(5) materia slots.
Relic weapons and Artifact Armor is earned via two currencies collected via killing monsters and notorious monsters in The Forbidden Land of Eureka.
The introduction quests in Eureka should direct you to our old friend and resident drunk Geralt, but for quick reference here is his location on the map.
Geralt is where you will handle upgrading all of your Relic Weapons and Armor. Before we get to the currency there are some things to know.
Important Relic Facts
- Any Relic or AF armor can be obtained on any job.
- You do not need to equip your relic at any point in Eureka for any reason.
- You will need the Antiquated Armor and Weapon from the job you wish to obtain relic for.
- This means you will need to be lvl 70 on the job you want to obtain relic/AF on, even if you are not playing that job.
- You can not turn in the weapon you are equipped with, make sure to carry a spare if you are turning in the anemos weapon, or only using one job.
- Each piece of equipment will need to be upgraded multiple times.
- There is no limit to the number of relics you can obtain.
Protean and Anemos Crystals
The method for upgrading Relic and AF is via the collection of two currencies that drop from Monsters in Eureka, Protean Crystals and Anemos Crystals. These two crystals are obtained in different ways and you will need many of them to upgrade all of your Relic and AF.
Protean Crystals can be obtained the following ways:
- Killing normal monsters within Eureka
- The higher level the monster and the higher level the chain, the more protean crystals you will receive.
- Exchanging Anemos Crystals with Geralt at a rate of about one(1) anemos crystal to three-ish(3.5) Protean Crystals. (A range of 1~5).
Anemos Crystals can be obtained the following way:
- Killing Notorious Monsters and obtaining a FATE rank of gold, silver, or bronze.
- You will need to be at minimum level for the fate to receive them.
Farming Crystals
The best method for farming crystals is FATEs. You still obtain them at a steady pace while leveling, but until very high levels, chains are not as efficient as FATE rewards for crystals.
Notorious Monster FATEs reward anemos crystals, which should be exchanged for Protean Crystals as you need them.
Unless you are on a relic or AF step that requires anemos crystals, or you are saving for the 99 anemos crystals required to mount at level 17, there is no reason to stockpile anemos crystals.
Relic and AF Cost Chart
The numbers may seem high, but the rate for obtaining crystals and the high conversion rate from anemos to protean crystals means that obtaining your gear should not take you long so long as you are progressing at a steady pace.
In fact once you are elemental level capped, it becomes even quicker and easier.
Un-Antiquated | +1 | +2 | Anemos
Relic Weap. | 100 Protean | 400 Protean | 800 Protean | 3 Pazuzu Feathers |
AF Armor Piece | 50 Protean | 150 Protean | 400 Protean | 150 Anemos |
Note: each piece of armor takes a total of 600 Protean Crystals and 150 Anemos.
Armor and Weapons only become dyeable upon obtaining the anemos form. It is also important to note that you will need the previous step as well as the crystals to upgrade to the next step, trading in both the needed crystals and the piece of gear.
You will need the antiquated armor and weapon you obtained from completing your final level 70 job quest to start obtaining upgraded relic and AF. It will be required to trade these in for the first step.
If you sold, threw away, or put these pieces in your glamour chest fear not! These items can be re-purchased at the calamity salvager.

Limsa Lominsa | Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks – Aftcastle – x11 y14 |
Gridania | Old Gridania – Mih Khetto’s Amphitheatre – x10 y8 |
Anemos Weapons and Pazuzu
To obtain the anemos stage of your relic, you will need three(3) Pazuzu’s Feather. These only drop from the level twenty(20) Fate: Wail in the Willows.
- Pazuzu feathers are only obtainable if you are elemental level 19 or 20.
- Pazuzu only spawns in gales.
- He has a respawn timer just like all the other NMs as well.
- You must kill shadow wraiths during Eorzean night time to help increase his spawn.
- Obtaining a Gold rank in Pazuzu’s FATE will reward 3 feathers. Silver is 2, Bronze is 1.
Upgrading your Relic from +2 to Anemos only requires you trade in the +2 and the feathers, but you can only do this as the job that can equip the anemos.
For example you can only turn in the +2 Red Mage weapon for the Anemos weapon, as a Red Mage!
