While in Western Thanalan, your appearance is made fun of by Swyrgeim, a woman with an eye for aesthetics. She lambasts your unapologetic focus on function rather than form and even goes as far as to say it makes her eyes bleed!
Nevertheless, she considers the situation salvageable and offers to teach you how to dye your gear. However, with the hot sun bearing down, she can’t help you until she’s had something to drink. Would you ‘be a dear’ and buy her a bottle of orange juice?
Who’s got the juice?
If you accepted the ‘Color your World’ Quest after Swyrgeim’s savaging and offer of help, you’re probably wondering where to find orange juice. First, you need to get out of Western Thanalan. Your destination: Ul’dah. Once there (assuming you start in the Crystal Area): leave, and take a left onto Emerald Avenue. Continue down Emerald Avenue until you go through a loading phase titled ‘Ul’dah -Steps of Thal’.
Katherine’s got the juice.
On the other side of the loading phase is the Sapphire Avenue Exchange, Uldah’s primary trade district. Once there, find Katherine, an NPC trader located on the left side of the street with ‘Potwatch’ under her name. Interact with her and there you go: orange juice. It will cost you 7 gil.
Rewards
Once you have delivered the orange juice to Swyrgeim, she takes a gulp, is relieved, and teaches you about coloring. She assures you the fabric won’t wear and reveals you can perform multiple dyes. You have unlocked dyeing. Swyrgeim also gives you three of each: rose pink dye, bone-white dye, and ice blue dye. You can buy more dyes from vendors. To dye gear, first select it from your armory or character screen. Each manual dye costs one dye.
